Keynote from Bill Hemsath
Bill Hemsath, RA Moog's Chief Engineer from 1969 to 1971, gave us three fantastic things we all treasure to this day. He developed the first CV joystick, which then became pitch and mod wheels. He also had the bright idea to wire some modules together in a box with a keyboard, and the Minimoog was born.
Music by the Knobcon Supper Club All Stars Featuring Ed & Judy Howard and Cory Flanigan
Workshops will be held Saturday and Sunday in the Copper Lecture Hall on the Main Floor.

Starting in the 1970s, synthesist and composer Isao Tomita recorded a series of albums featuring classical music realized with the Moog Modular Synthesizer that were greatly influential and at times a bit controversial. In this workshop, Nicholas D. Kent, a synthesist who's been fascinated by Japanese electronic music for decades will present examples of Tomita's recording techniques and specific patch breakdowns in context with how what he was doing fit into his career as a composer.

With an Arduino, a breadboard, and a handful of parts, you can build a MIDI controller that works as a sequencer or a classic beatbox. But the same design can be used to implement interactive MIDI effects that bend musical time and space. From real-time manipulation of tone clusters to playing the silences between the notes, simple midi parameter misdirection to an exploration of vertical time, hyperrealism and perceptual illusions – one basic Arduino MIDI build can serve as a useful platform for a wide variety of sonic explorations. In this talk, Elliot Inman of Musical Circuits will demonstrate the build and code necessary to get started and demonstrate various musical effects. Additional Information
Sunday, Sept 11 from 11:30a - 12:30p
Mr Amos Gaynes of the MIDI Manufacturer's Association would like to have a word with you about MIDI, why you shouldn't neglect it, and how it can enrich your life. As expected, a spectacular event
Learned a lot, laughed a ton, listened to good music, met great people and bought too much new gear. I have no complaints at all!
The whole thing was extremely enjoyable
I made more friends last weekend than I have in years that are in to the same stuff as me. Cheers to everyone involved in planning it!
Had a great time!
Even though I did not know anyone there, I was made to feel welcome and part of the gang.
Thanks for the awesome time everyone!
I saw tons of amazing things for the first time and met tons of cool people, not a bad one in the bunch!
Had a great time!
Learned a lot about modular synths and other gear. Enjoyed the "low-key" relaxed environment and the Knobcon staffers were helpful and very professional. Hope to make it back next year.
Knobcon was amazing!
Loved getting to try out the new and old gear. Everyone there was super cool, and I will definitely be back next year.
